INCLINED GYROSCOPIC HORIZON

RATE OF TURN INTEGRATOR
(1951 US, by Paul A Noxon)
"The present invention relates to indicating instruments, and more particularly to means for accurately indicating, at all times, the magnetic heading of a mobile vehicle such as an aircraft, for example.
Devices heretofore provided for indicating a crafts magnetic heading during or after a turn of the craft have been either the magnetic compass or'the rate oi turn integrating device or the directional gyro. Magnetic compasses, as is well known, are subject to oscillations, particularly when used o n an aircraft and especially during a craft turnk and, hence, are practically useless for indicating the continuous change in magnetic heading during turn. Rate of turn integrating devices, on the other hand, are sufbject to certain inherent integration errors so that the final indication is either less or more than the actual angle of turn traversed by the craft, while directional gyros are subject to precession or creeping oi the set course, thereby necessitating frequent re-setting of the gyro...."
